The Learning Commons


The Learning Commons is the place to get all kinds of questions answered! Not only does the Learning Commons house the tutoring center (see the Tutoring section of this handbook for those details), but it is also the place to go to learn how to manage your electronic resources and become the best student that you can be through the improvement of your skills.

 

Services Offered

Come in and take a workshop on how to become a stronger student:

  • Study skills:  How to master and remember large amounts of information
  • Time management skills:  How to maintain a calendar/schedule
  • Stress Management:  How to use breathing exercises, maintain fitness, and employ healthy living habits to relieve stress
  • Note-taking skills:  How to skim, outline, and use other techniques in taking notes
  • Organizational skills:  How to handle large amounts of information effectively
  • Test-taking strategies:  Tips on how to pass tests

 

Students can also learn how to manage the following online platforms:

  • Canvas Assistance (individual help with your online classes)
  • G-mail (help with how to use student e-mail)
  • Atomic Learning (online tutorials on Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Canvas, etc.)
  • Web Resources (additional computer resources to help student learning)

 

SVCC has two Learning Commons locations:
