Want to get advice and guidance on how to be successful in all aspects of college? Interested in becoming a part of a mentoring program? SVCC offers two mentoring programs designed to help students navigate the many challenges they face as students, ultimately keeping students in school and helping them reach their graduation goals. Make-It-Happen and Women in Search of Excellence (WISE) mentoring programs offer specialized support services that include college transition, time management, leadership training, and much more.
Make it Happen
Make It Happen is a comprehensive program which provides meaningful activities for participants and establishes an institutional climate supportive of the success of African-American males. A variety of activities are available to Make It Happen participants. Individual and group counseling activities focus on family and peer relations, along with physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being. Women in Search of Excellence (WISE)
Women in Search of Excellence (WISE) seeks to address the challenges facing women in higher education by fostering healthy relationships and providing support, guidance and encouragement to help overcome barriers to achieve personal, professional and academic growth. Activities provide leadership skills training, nutrition and diet education (with a focus on healthy habits for living), financial planning, an introduction to community college education, good community citizenship (fostering healthy relationships between the community and law enforcement), dress for success, and cultural enrichment.
