Student Success and Retention

SVCC focuses on your success and aims to help you stay in school and reach your goals. SVCC promotes student success by facilitating active engagement in college activities, co-curricular programs and supportive services such as tutoring and study groups, and helping students form beneficial relationships with faculty, staff, and other students. We are here to help you succeed!

SVCC has a variety of resources to help you both inside and outside of the classroom. We’ve compiled a list of resources and online training sources for you (i.e., tips for passing classes, time management skills, etc.) check out what we’ve got to help you out at https://southside.edu/student-success-retention.

Testing Center

Need to take a test in order to get into your program of study? Need to take a make-up test? SVCC offers a number of testing centers to help you with your testing needs. The SVCC testing center offers the following tests:

  • TEAS Testing - Test of Essential Academic Skills (also called ATI-TEAS- Version 7). Commonly referred to as the TEAS test. This exam is a pre-entrance exam for SVCC’s nursing programs.
  • GED® Testing – The SVCC Adult Education program helps you work toward taking your GED. Information about the details of studying for and taking the GED test are available at https://southside.edu/adult-education-grants
  • Pearson VUE Testing – Online testing center which partners with SVCC to offer students the testing they need
  • Proctored Testing (SVCC students and non-SVCC students) – It doesn’t matter what kind of test you may need to take; we are here to proctor your test. Even if you are taking classes elsewhere, we can proctor your test.

Specific information about each test, including: testing locations, hours of operation, contact information, testing requirements, identification requirements, and additional resources (if available) can be found at https://southside.edu/testing-center.

*Students needing accommodation based on a disability should contact SVCC’s Office of Disability Services for help in identifying an appropriate proctor. Any student needing accommodations should contact before contacting the Testing Center:
