Length: Forty credit hour program
Purpose: The Certificate of Substance Abuse Counseling Assistant is designed to train individuals for work in the area’s mental health agencies. The certificate will provide the coursework to prepare students ( employees of area agencies) to complete the Substance Abuse Counselor exam through the National Board for Certified Counselors.
Occupational Objectives: Graduates may be employed in a variety of settings, including, but not limited to, hospital and residential-based treatment programs, community-based treatment programs, group homes, homeless shelters, residential halfway houses, and institutional and community-based juvenile and adult corrections.
Program Description:
The curriculum is provided as three semesters of full-time enrollment and includes coursework to prepare students to take the Certified Substance Abuse Counselor exam. Courses do not serve as prerequisites for others, so students may enter the program during any semester. Part-time students would extend time to completion. Students currently employed may have transfer coursework that can apply towards the certificate.
