This is a Health Sciences pathway under Science AS. At the completion of the program, you will earn an Associate of Science degree in Science.
PURPOSE: The purpose of the Associate of Science (AS) in Science with a pathway in Health Science is to provide a community college career pathway for students seeking health careers requiring a baccalaureate or higher-level degree. The program and its course of study are intended to provide students with a general course of study that parallels the freshman and sophomore years of Bachelor of Health Science programs at most colleges and universities. Students will be able to take this relevant transfer coursework at a more affordable community college price.
The program will provide students an opportunity to complete a program that will articulate with baccalaureate degree programs in the high-demand health science and health-related fields. The program also contains the general education courses needed for transfer into a baccalaureate program. Students interested in transferring should meet with Academic Advising early to determine and discuss the requirements of their intended four-year institution.
CREDENTIALS: An Associate of Science (AS) degree is a major related to an area such as business administration, engineering, science, and social sciences that takes 2 years for full time students to complete. Students receiving an AS degree intend to transfer to four-year colleges.
TRANSFER INFORMATION: This program is designed for transfer. Students should consult with their advisors to ensure that they select general electives that best prepare them for the specific requirements of their intended transfer college or university programs of study.
PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS AND SPECIAL CONDITIONS: Students must meet SVCC admission requirements. New students should work with their New Student Navigator to prepare for their first semester. They can also email getstarted@southside.edu for assistance. Because transfer requirements will vary based upon the intended transfer institution, students must meet with their faculty advisor to develop a schedule that best suits their goals.
PROGRAM OUTCOMES: By the completion of this program, students will be expected to:
1. Explain the process and limitations of scientific inquiry.
2. Apply scientific literacy skills to design and perform an experiment, and then evaluate the data collected to draw evidence-based conclusions.
3. Show an understanding of the fundamental laws, theories, and concepts of inorganic chemistry.
4. Analyze data and interpret charts, graphs, and tables to draw valid conclusions.
5. Show an understanding of the function concept in graphical form, including linear, polynomial, rational, algebraic, exponential, and logarithmic functions.
