Length: Forty credit hour program
Purpose: The Certificate of Substance Abuse Counseling Assistant is designed to train individuals for work in the area’s mental health agencies. The certificate will provide the coursework to prepare students ( employees of area agencies) to complete the Substance Abuse Counselor exam through the National Board for Certified Counselors.
Occupational Objectives: Graduates may be employed in a variety of settings, including, but not limited to, hospital and residential-based treatment programs, community-based treatment programs, group homes, homeless shelters, residential halfway houses, and institutional and community-based juvenile and adult corrections.
The curriculum is provided as three semesters of full-time enrollment and includes coursework to prepare students to take the Certified Substance Abuse Counselor exam.
